- Battery Enclosure HW Systems
We're creating our own future. At Volvo Cars, we have bold targets when it comes to innovation, sales and customer experience, and we’re developing new technologies to lead in safety, autonomous driving and electrification.
Our Challenge One of the most important things is sustainability and vehicle safety
- no one can argue with that. Are you up for playing an important task for our electrification journey, working with battery enclosures, and making our electric cars one of the safest in the world? Then the Battery Hardware department is the place for you to prosper!
The Department Battery Hardware is responsible for the design and development of the high voltage battery systems for our electrified vehicles. The department is part of the Propulsion & Energy Unit where we collaborate closely with the interfacing engineering teams of the propulsion system, such as electric motors, inverters et c. We are also working closely e.g. with our Manufacturing unit as we together are reshaping and expanding Volvo’s manufacturing footprint to enable our transition to electrification.
The Team We are an international team managing parts and systems such as battery tray, battery lid, brackets, gaskets, thermal protective structures, and deal with multiple joining techniques. Our material commodity portfolio consists of e.g. casted/extruded/stamped aluminum, stamped steel sheets, and plastic injected molded parts.
We have the joy of doing all detail design work ourselves, it is 100% Built to Print parts and we create all technical documents enabling our supplier base to manufacture our parts. Our engineering solutions are important to meet our battery and vehicle attribute requirements and manufacturing process demands within decided cost and time frames.
What you will do You will take on the GDL role and manage and lead the development work of our enclosure parts and systems. For this you have full support from your team colleagues and support teams for detailed design & CAE work. You will be responsible for some of our parts and coordination of sub-team in the group.
Keeping track of time plans, deliveries, reporting system, issue management as well as keeping a good dialogue with suppliers, manufacturing, purchase, etc. in a cross functional environment is a day-to-day part of the job. You will be involved in frequent meetings with our suppliers to discuss the technical solution and related issues to manufacturing and assembly. In the same way, you will be deeply involved in dialogue with our different battery and vehicle plants and manufacturing engineering teams. In this role, there will be need for some traveling, to visit our different suppliers and vehicle plants in order to have a good dialogue around your parts and systems. We will challenge you and expect you to do the same to bring out the best from each one of us.
Required qualifications and personal qualities You have a positive attitude, you are self-driven, result oriented and flexible.
You have a structured way of working, good collaboration & communication skills and good with prioritizing the work.
You have a technical education at university level or equivalent experience Minimum 10 years' work experience in engineering within the automotive industry. You have previous leadership experience (e.g. managing a sub-team)
Experience in Team center and other Part Management tools (such as VPC, KDP, Pecca) Experience of designing and developing electrical systems or mechanical parts like aluminum extrusions, HPDC, die casting, sheet metal forming is meritorious. Experience from working in CATIA as a design engineer is also seen as a plus As we are designing “from scratch” many times, you enjoy creating new solutions, fix tricky problems, and being able to think outside the box, and simply love to take on a good technical challenge together with your team.
