Role Description: Chemical compliance engineer

We are offering a great chance for professional development in a position as chemical compliance engineer, with focus to work with interdisciplinary teams to develop and improve our governance, way of working and requirements related to chemical compliance.
Purpose The mission of the chemical compliance role is to manage chemical product processes and requirements at a global level, to secure Volvo Penta compliances of chemical legislations according to recognized organizations/authority’s requirements.
You will be our central point of contact for Volvo Penta management of chemical management at a global level, including inventory, registrations, and storage of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), substitutions strategies etc. You are the main issuer of guidelines, requirements and to improve the organization's knowledge on related topics.
The assignment will include both chemicals usage at our own operations but also in our product and aftermarket chemical products that Volvo Penta is placing on the market.
You will be a part of a central specialized environment and substance compliance team at Volvo Penta, and work in close collaboration with local EHS coordinators by our manufacturing sites, R&D, aftermarket and purchasing organization. You will also be in close collaboration with externally supporting Chemical Compliance experts and similar teams as ours at other business units within Volvo Group. This to strengthen the governance, tools, requirements and way of working with chemical management.
Volvo Group and Volvo Penta has recently modernized our chemical management system, and with this implementation you will have an excellent ability to influence our future way of working and set new standards for our chemical management.
Responsibilities
• Oversee the compliance of our chemical management, governance, and products, by EU and other international chemical legislations.
• Define, refine, and improve processes and instructions related to chemical compliance.
• Train and instruct design, aftermarket, and manufacturing engineers about chemical and material compliance.
• Perform assessments of way of working, including compliance check towards various legislations.
• Oversee the efficiency of the SDS assessments support for Volvo Penta’s organization.
• Prepare management recommendation for improving chemical management and governance.
Authority
• Key user access in chemical management system.
• Authority to stop chemical products, deviating with legal compliance requirements.
• Represent Volvo Penta in Volvo Group chemical network meetings.
• Lead internal Volvo Penta network related to chemical product management.
Competence
• Minimum two years University degree of Chemistry, chemical engineering or similar (natural or environmental sciences)
• 2-3 years of experience in chemical regulatory compliance, such as EU REACH, CLP, TSCA or related national legislation (preferably Sweden, US)
• Knowledge in occupational health & safety issues and toxicology
• Experience in assessing supplier SDS or authoring SDS is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with people.
• Good ability to analyze/summarize requirements, with focus on key issues.
• Ability to take actions to achieve results, and to persevere when challenged.
• Be business and customer oriented.
• Self-starting initiative, leadership, and follow-through to drive activities to completion, with ability to structure and organize with a holistic approach.
