Overview: As a Design Engineer in the Steering Column HW team, you will lead and contribute to the design and development of Steering components or systems. Your primary responsibilities include conceptualizing, designing, testing, and implementing solutions that meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, and project managers, to deliver high-quality products within specified timelines.
Responsibilities:
- Product Design: Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of Steering components or systems, considering factors such as performance, manufacturability, cost, and stakeholders requirements.
- CAD Modelling: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed 2D and 3D models of components or systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance to design specifications.
- Analysis of results: Conduct structural, thermal and environmental analyses of data from simulation tools to evaluate the performance and durability of designs and iterate as necessary to optimize performance.
- Prototyping and Testing: Oversee the prototyping process and coordinate with testing teams to validate designs through physical testing, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers, to integrate components into vehicle systems and resolve design issues.
- Documentation: Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, test plans, and reports, to communicate design intent and facilitate manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement, and actively contribute to design reviews, lessons learned sessions, and knowledge sharing activities within the organization.
- Project Management: Lead or contribute to project planning and execution activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management, to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
