CFD simulation engineer, GTT Powertrain Engineering, EATS (Engine After Treatment System)
The System Design and Simulation team is part of the Exhaust After Treatment System (EATS) Department within Powertrain Engineering, Volvo Group Trucks Technology. The team is responsible for EATS global system engineering, EATS technical lead as well as simulations of thermo and fluid dynamic processes within the exhaust aftertreatment systems.
The group System Design & Simulation consists of 4 simulation engineers, 4 technical leaders and two Global System Responsible. The overall mission for our simulations is to minimize fuel consumption (CO2) and emissions as well as improve features and quality of our global products. The daily work is done in close cooperation with the members of the global simulation team, together with the EATS Hardware global group to help with the best suitable design and with the simulation team of Combustion Technology. You will work in a global environment.
Work description:
As an EATS 3D Simulation Engineer, you will be involved in the design and analysis of new EATS concepts and technologies. We work in technology advance cross-functional engineering teams to create the best sustainable system solution together. CFD will be one of your main tools. With your problem-solving mindset you will be able to analyse simulation results, recommend improvements and design solutions, perform concept studies, and cooperate with colleagues to deliver the best results to the projects/internal customers. As an employee at Powertrain Engineering, you will also take an active part to continuous improvements of your work and the EATS section.
Who we believe you are:
As you will work with focus on building products for a sustainable future, we believe you should have passion to develop technologies aiming for environmentally friendly products. We also believe you are well organized and structured, have a curiosity for exploring new and improving existing technologies. As you will lead your own work as well as suggest design solutions, we believe you have team leading skills, a true holistic view but also a set of key competences in 3D simulation and in the areas of EATS. The ability to balance and prioritize are also important skills to succeed in this role. We also think you have a positive mindset, a creative personality with ability to generate ideas and propose solutions for different challenges. The Volvo Group Trucks Technology is a global organization which means that team-work and cross functional abilities are success factors in everything we do.
Main tasks:
• Plan and prioritize the work together with our simulation team and EATS groups.
• Perform CFD analysis in StarCCM+.
• Analyze simulation results, recommend improvements, present the results to the internal customers.
• Working close to other teams to get maximum output for the customer and contribute to system and component development
• Collaboration, planning, validation, correlation, and make conclusions together to get the complete picture for the optimal integration.
• Write engineering reports for the simulations.
• Develop our 3D methodology and way of working.
Skills:
• Extensive experience in CFD simulations, preferably StarCCM+, Converge and ANSA
• Positive and a wide “can-do” attitude. You will lead your own work.
• M. Sc or B. Sc in relevant engineering field, preferably Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Good knowledge in Engine and EATS simulations
• Good knowledge of EATS, EATS system development and the combustion engine technology development
• Strong ability to work in cross functional teams as well as being able to work independently
• Excellent communication and coordination skills
• Structured way of working
• Committed, driven, and engaged
• Proficient in English, written and spoken
• Knowledge in java/python/MATLAB
