Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
Who are we?
Volvo Autonomous Solutions (VAS) is the business area within Volvo Group that accelerates the development, commercialization, and sales of autonomous solutions. The vision for Volvo Group is to be the most desired and successful transport and infrastructure solution provider in the world. We don’t sell trucks and machines: we operate the solutions through the full life cycle to maximize the improvements achievable through autonomy.
That goes hand in hand with our long-term ambitions: 100% Safe, 100% Fossil free and 100% more productive. The automation of our vehicles is seen as a natural step towards reaching that goal. Joining the Volvo Group means contributing to a large global company that is transforming itself towards these ambitions. We are committed to diversity and inclusion, fostering a team culture where differences are seen as a steppingstone to better results.
The role:
As a Project Manager Industrialization, your usual responsibility is implementing new products or product changes in the plant. However, there comes a time when you also need to design the plant, and this is one of those times. You’ll have the opportunity to design and build the first production line for Volvo Autonomous Solutions, meant to go from prototype build to small serial production.
In this role, you will begin by designing and building assembly stations for a truck and trailer combination. Technicians will use these stations to install all the hardware necessary for autonomous driving. This assembly doesn't involve heavy machinery but requires specific tools for adding extra sensors and computing equipment onto a pre-built Volvo truck and trailer. Some components will require programming and configuration before assembly, while others will need calibration before being delivered to the customer. Transitioning from prototype build to serial production will also involve developing and designing processes for production scheduling, internal logistics, and material procurement.
As the project manager, you will be the first person recruited for this activity. You'll lead the creation of the production team, working alongside colleagues from finance, purchasing, IT, and product development.
You will lead and drive the project from investigation to implementation. This involves understanding manufacturing operational setups, the ability to grasp new technologies, and conducting detailed analyses of their impacts on planned process solutions. You'll recommend the best alternatives and implement them with the project team. Experience in automation and manufacturing is recommended, along with change management capabilities to achieve good results. Previous experience in industrialization projects is also a merit.
Key responsibilities:
As the project manager, your role involves defining key activities and ensuring they are delivered within the agreed timeframe and budget. You will develop and update the main time plan to keep the project on track. Additionally, you will define and monitor the project budget, which includes both resources and investments. Since there is no production team currently, part of your responsibilities could involve building a team.
You will also monitor and follow up on deliveries to ensure everything progresses smoothly. Your leadership skills will be crucial in motivating and providing direction to colleagues working with you. It's important to secure manufacturing capacity for scalable serial production, keeping in mind that yearly volumes will grow over time.
You will actively participate in decision-making through reference and steering committees. Communication with concerned line organizations and management is essential for keeping everyone informed and involved in the project's progress.
Who are you?
You are self-driven, find ways to solve challenges and have strong communication skills. You are inclusive and find it natural to collaborate cross-functional in the organization. We believe you have a Master or bachelor's in manufacturing engineering/automation or equal job experience, and experience from project management within manufacturing.
Experience from low-volume, flexible and versatile production facilities is a merit.
Fluency in Swedish and English, in both speech and writing, are a requirement.
